One fine afternoon I was thinking about electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure and the pros and cons of charging the vehicle at a station vs swapping out its battery. The pros of swapping out the battery is that the process is much faster. You just drive in to a charging station, swap out the battery and you are good to go. Probably same time taken as filling the tank of a petrol vehicle. The cons of such an idea is that all the batteries in all the cars have to be standardized which seems unlikely as the battery technology is still a long way away from maturing and newer and better batteries keep coming up making standardization difficult.
