What is Machine Learning ?

Image
As per Wikipedia   Machine learning  ( ML ) is the  scientific study  of  algorithms  and  statistical models  that  computer systems  use to effectively perform a specific task without using explicit instructions, relying on patterns and inference instead. It is seen as a subset of  artificial intelligence . Machine learning algorithms build a  mathematical model  based on sample data, known as " training data ", in order to make predictions or decisions without being explicitly programmed to perform the task. [1] [2] :2 Machine learning algorithms are used in a wide variety of applications, such as  email filtering , and  computer vision , where it is infeasible to develop an algorithm of specific instructions for performing the task. Machine learning is closely related to  computational statistics , which focuses on making predictions using computers. The study of  mathematical optimization  d...

Should imported high end motorcycles be taxed in India?

Image
In this age of internet and globalization, we get to see some amazing technologies from across the planet. Some of these are consumer goods and it is human desire to want to enjoy them. In this blog I would like to talk about motorcycles. India is the world's second largest 2 wheeler market behind china selling 20 million 2 wheelers per annum. Now there are many motorcycle companies in India. But the Indian companies tend to focus on lower powered motorcycles which get the job done of transporting people from A to B. This is mainly because India's per capita income is not so great. But not all Indians are poor. In fact some of them are doing moderately well if not exceedingly well. And in this group some have a interest to ride and explore, maybe on some good motorcycles. Maybe they can afford the mileage if it drops from 40 kmpl to 25 kmpl. But they certainly can't or won't afford a bike which costs 6 Lakhs INR instead of 3 Lakhs INR because of taxes. The Indian ...

Indian Election Results Full result 2019

Image
BJP is only the second party ever in the history of Indian politics to come back to power with a majority. The first time it happened was decades ago. In a major upset in West Bengal, the TMC had expected to win all 42 seats of MP constituency but managed to win only 22 and 18 were grabbed by the BJP which had only won 2 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Meanwhile in Amethi, BJP's Smriti Irani defeated Congress President Rahul Gandhi to win the seat at Amethi. Full and final results updated now  and many foreign heads of state have congratulated Mr Modi on winning a second term. A round of applause to India Today's My Axis Exit Poll for being so spot on.

Yamaha Fazer FI Discontinued

It seems that Yamaha Fazer FI, the semi fared 149 cc fuel injected bike from the Yamaha stables in India has been discontinued quietly as it is no longer listed in the company's website. This could be due to low sales figures as the Fazer never gained as much popularity as it cousin the FZ which has been updated with the version 3.0.  Its legacy lives though in the hands of its capable elder sibling, the FAZER 25 which is the semi fared version of FZ25, a 250cc naked motorcycle, making a healthy power and torque figures of around 20.9 PS and 20 NM respectively and priced around Rs1,43,680 and comes with dual channel ABS.

A wish for new types of petrol bikes

One fine afternoon I was thinking about electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure and the pros and cons of charging the vehicle at a station vs swapping out its battery. The pros of swapping out the battery is that the process is much faster. You just drive in to a charging station, swap out the battery and you are good to go. Probably same time taken as filling the tank of a petrol vehicle. The cons of such an idea is that all the batteries in all the cars have to be standardized which seems unlikely as the battery technology is still a long way away from maturing and newer and better batteries keep coming up making standardization difficult. The pros of charging is you don't have to deal with swapping out a heavy battery. The cons are it is a comparatively slow process and might test the patience of today's world with their instant gratification patience levels. Then suddenly my thoughts switched to petrol vehicles and I thought it would have been cool to h...
